Tracking measles: April 8

Tracking measles: April 8

This series tracks measles alerts that might not make major headlines. After discovering a measles exposure in my area that I almost missed, I created these updates to help others stay informed. Paid subscribers receive brief, skimmable reports twice weekly (Tuesdays and Fridays) on new cases nationwide. New: I plan to continue these reports through at least May.

General updates

  • An unvaccinated, school-age child has died in Texas, bringing the number of confirmed deaths to 2. A third person died in New Mexico, but the cause of death is under investigation.
  • According to CDC, there have been 6 outbreaks (defined as 3 or more related cases) reported in 2025, and 93% of confirmed cases are outbreak-associated.
  • Canada, like the United States, is facing multiple measles outbreaks. Ontario is most affected, with 655 cases and 52 hospitalizations as of April 2. As an aside, I really appreciate Ontario’s detailed situation report. Several other Canadian provinces, including Alberta and Quebec, are also affected by measles.

The following jurisdictions have reported measles cases since Friday afternoon. I made some exceptions to that time window where noted. States are in alphabetical order.
