Update on regional editions

Update on regional editions

Regional editions are on hold while the federal government is shut down and CDC is not able to publish most disease surveillance data. During this gap, I’m collecting and disseminating respiratory virus data from all the states and making it freely accessible to everyone. I’ll continue publishing a single comprehensive edition each week with details from every state until the government reopens. Thank you for bearing with me during this uncertain time.

If you’re just joining us, Force of Infection operates on two publication schedules: summer and winter. During the summer, when respiratory activity is low, I publish a single report each week. During the winter, I publish five editions: a free national edition for everyone, plus four regional editions (one for each part of the country) available to paid subscribers. My usual updates feature more in the way of data visualizations and in-depth analysis (see example national and regional reports), but those components aren’t feasible during the government shutdown while I’m manually curating data from different state sources. (More on regions here.)

I know this format isn’t ideal, but maintaining access to public health surveillance data feels important to me. Thank you for your support!
